Needle-Leaf WEDGE
K-Style
INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
(The WEDGE can be installed upside down!)
- 1) Clean gutters of any needles, leaves or any other debris
- 2) Make any repairs to damaged gutters before installing NLW. Make sure that the gutters are installed with a downward angel toward the downspout. A decline of 1” for every 14 feet of gutter is recommended for proper drainage to the downspout. Inadequate decline will lead to standing water in the gutters that can freeze and add weight to the gutters.
- 3) CAUTION: the Needle-Leaf Wedge can be installed upside down. Look at the end of each piece, identify the 90 degree right angle: the short side rests against the house, the long coated side forms the top shelf. Or, the White/Red line parallels the top shelf and is perpendicular to the back.
- 4) Use a sharp, long bladed utility or flat knife to make any cuts.
- 5) Install corners (mitered or not) first using a full 4 foot piece on each angle if possible.
- 6) Any mitered corners must be cut on a precise angle allowing for a proper union; use of a miter box is suggested. Sloppy cuts will leave an opening permitting debris into the gutter, leading to clogging. If corner pieces are compressed to tightly at the union, water may overflow from the roof to the ground. If debris accumulates on top of the NLW, especially in corners, they should be swept or blown clear to prevent overflow of water.
- 7) Over-The-Hanger installation (OTH) is suggested, especially if the hangers are placed low in the gutter. The OTH installation method creates a higher profile from which debris will be blown to the ground. Identify where the underside of the NLW will contact the hanger. Turn the NLW on the top side and make a level cut to within ½” of the top surface. If the hangers are flat and wide, make a parallel cut the width of the hanger as above, turn the knife 90 degrees and cut out the piece. Your NLW will now straddle the hanger and create a higher profile. Adjacent pieces of NLW must be compressed ¼” from side to side to prevent any opening.
- 8) Under-The-Hanger installation (UTH), the traditional installation method, requires you to “scrunch” the end of the NLW and slide it under the hangers. Hangers that are placed too low in the gutter can cause the NLW to compress too much which can restrict the flow of water. Adjacent pieces of NLW must be compressed ¼” from side to side to prevent any opening.
CAUTION MUST BE TAKEN WHEN INSTALLING NLW. IF A LADDER IS REQUIRED, FOLLOW THE LADDER MANUFACTURERS INSTRUCTIONS INCLUDING LENGTH OF LADDER REQUIRED, ANGLE FROM BUILDING AND PROPER FOOTING. OVERREACHING ON A LADDER CAN LEAD TO A FALL.
